Dr. Haonan Li was appointed as Assistant Professor at University of Nottingham (China Campus) in 2018, and was then promoted to Associate Professor in 2020, and to Full Professor in 2023 (at the age of 33, the youngest professor). Until July 2024, Dr. Li published more than 80 articles in the top journals with the total citation of 3900+, where it has 13 ESI highly-cited ones, and 9 hot papers. Dr. Li coordiated 10+ projects at the national levels and 5 at the provincial/municipal levels as PIs. Dr. Li has several titles/awards including:
- 2024, World Highly Cited Chinese Researchers (the only full-time staff in FOSE), by Elsevier
- 2023, 2022, 2021, World’s Top 2% high-cited Scientists, by Elsevier, Scopus, and Stanford University

Except for academic research, Dr. Li created the 1st UNNC joint venture in University of Nottingham history with the business focus on the design and build of advanced manufacturing machines.
Research Interests
Prof. Haonan Li has a wide range of research interests relating with innovative manufacturing machines/robots, including
- Innovative design and build of subtractive manufacturing machines
(Examples: multiple-axis CNC gantry, 6-axis laser drilling head, 5-axis laser machine, 5+3 axis laser texturing machine, etc.) - Innovative design and build of 3d printers
(Examples: holographic DLP, multimaterial DLP/DIW, suspended DIW, pellet-based DIW, etc.) - Customised CAD/CAM
(Examples: mold CAD plugin, turbine CAM plugin, aerostructure CAE plugin, carbon fibre placement CAM plugin, etc.) - Design and build of non-standard machines/robots
(Examples: harvest robots, fibre placement machine, etc.) - High-valued applications of advanced manufacturing approaches
(Example: ultrahard material processing, wearable/flexible sensor fabrication, microfluidics system manufacturing, etc.)
