Dr. Yi Nie's research interests lie in Mechanics in Advanced Manufacturing, Functional Material Design, and Novel Additive Manufacturing Techniques. His main R&D focus is to apply advanced manufacturing for developing the next-generation products in aerospace, healthcare, automotive etc. He has published 17 journal papers, 2 conference papers, and 6 patents (Google scholar citations 440, h-index 8).

Dr. Yi Nie is an Assistant Professor in Intelligent Manufacturing at the China Beacons Institute, University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC). He obtained his MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering and BEng in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation from Central South University in June 2013 and June 2010, respectively. He was awarded his PhD degree in Mechanical Material and Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Nottingham in July 2018. His work experience began as a Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China from September 2016 to September 2018, where he participated in the "Automotive Parts Low-Carbon Manufacturing Innovation Team" project funded by Ningbo Science and Technology Bureau. He then worked as a Project Assistant in metal Additive Manufacturing (AM) at Swansea University UK from January 2019 to January 2022, where he participated in the "Advanced Sustainable Manufacturing (ASTUTE)" project supported by the EU Regional Development Fund. He is now responsible for teaching, scientific research, and industrial collaboration in the area of Intelligent Manufacturing at UNNC.
