Dr. Chen has a strong record in health economics and policy research. He received the 2013 CDC Excellence in Behavioral and Social Sciences Research Award. Dr. Chen has more than 40 publications in peer-reviewed top field journals including Journal of Health Economics, Health Economics, Health Services Research, Social Science & Medicine, American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Economics Letters, etc.
Dr. Chen is active in providing scientific service and professional leadership. He has served as a Steering Committee member of the CDC Health Economics Research Group twice. He served on the Board of Directors of the Chinese Economists Society (CES) for two terms and is currently the President-elect of CES. He is serving as the President (2016-2018) of the China Health Policy and Management Society. At CDC, he has mentored a Ferguson Health Disparity fellow and a Prevention Effectiveness Postdoctoral Fellow. Dr. Chen is a sought-after journal reviewer and has reviewed funding proposals submitted to the Research Career Development Award Program, Yale Pepper Center, Yale University and proposals for cooperative agreements at CDC.
Dr. Chen was elected as the President (2014-2016) of the Association of Asian/Pacific Islander Employees of CDC/ATSDR in June 2014 and received the 2016 Civilian Award in Diversity Excellence from the Federal Asian Pacific American Council for his work on diversity and inclusion at CDC.
Research Interest
His major areas of interest include health economics, applied econometrics, social determinants of health, methods in measuring health disparities, and statistical methods.
Personal profile
Dr. Zhuo (Adam) Chen is Li Dak Sum Chair Professor in Health Economics, School of Economics, University of Nottingham, Ningbo China, and Associate Professor of Health Policy and Management, College of Public Health, University of Georgia, USA. He was a senior health economist with The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Before he joined CDC in 2006, he was a Postdoctoral Scholar with The University of Chicago during 2005-2006 and a Postdoctoral Research Associate with The University of Tennessee, Knoxville from 2004 to 2005. He held part-time teaching appointment at Georgia Institute of Technology School of Economics in 2007-2008. He holds a PhD in Economics (2004) and an MS in Statistics (2002) from Iowa State University, and MMgt (1999) and BS (1996) in Management Science from University of Science and Technology of China.
