Abstract

Research and development at LAC/BIAM has focused on polymer matrix composite system possessing excellent damage resistance and processing ease for aerospace industry. The goal has been achieved by development of an innovative toughening technology platform, so-called Ex-situ concept, both for prepreg-autoclave and liquid molding technique like RTM and RFI. High-performance epoxy, bismaleimide and polyimide matrix composites have been developed by using the LAC/BIAM's proprietary concept. Processing conditions and mechanical properties of the trial products have been demonstrated. Particularly the interlaminar toughness and impact damage resistance and tolerance have been significantly improved, with balanced in-plane properties even at hot/wet conditions and good processabilities.
