Abstract

An extended electromotive force (EMF) based sliding adaptive observer with the speed extraction scheme based on the extended state observer (ESO) for permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) is proposed in the paper. The extended EMF is estimated by the sliding adaptive observer, while ESO is applied for speed extraction in cascade. Both the estimated speed and the rotor angle are verified through the experimental tests. The comparison between the performance of ESO and the other two speed extraction schemes have been presented. ESO is proved to have more satisfactory performance than the other two, including the stable speed estimation and promising dynamic response in the low and the medium speed ranges.
