Abstract
Mobile workspaces are considered portable working environments. Mobile technologies from 2000 onwards have become synonymous with people’s lives, aiming to help them mobilise themselves to be more efficient and effective and support their wellbeing. However, the unexpected pandemic of COVID-2019 leads the digital and mobile technologies to be widely used due to the need to work remotely. Therefore, the need to design workspaces with the capacity of creating “mobile employees” impact the way (a) design mobile workspaces and (b) change the way of making decisions due to mobile information accessibility. Therefore, this chapter allows the reader to understand the principles of how mobile working environments are designed and how humans change the way of working (creating mobile employer mode). Two case studies took place in the post-COVID-19 era experimenting with mobile technologies to design a house and create a mobile-based working environment. Results showed that using mobile devices to acquire data and using visualisation technologies over mobile terminals to run scenarios was the best way to help potential buyers make better decisions on the final layout of their homes. In addition, results show how design practices add value when creating mobile-based workspaces that allow employees to work using mobile terminals. These 2 case studies in the post-COVID-19 era led to the formation of a digital architecture within organisations, buildings, and cities to help residents to work within a mobile environment (remotely).
