Abstract
The basic investigations relate to the separation of a -100 micron, single density (1.39) coal in a 50 mm hydrocyclone unit operated in closed circuit. Parameters tests were spigot and vortex finder diameters, feed pressures and solid concentration. The effect of these variables upon water and solid splits on the corrected d SUB 50 are discussed briefly. In the subsequent analysis it is shown that the flow split is independent of pressure and is a unique function of the ratio underflow/overflow ratio . Similarly the corrected d SUB 50 may be expressed in terms of the underflow fluid or slurry velocity. An expression for the separation point is derived for use in process control and performance prediction. (from authors' abstract)
