Abstract
This paper discusses contribution of Hambidge’s dynamic symmetry design as a proportioning system to formal aesthetic evaluation of multimedia and web based screen layout. Hambidge’s system has been employed in many industrial areas since its discovery about a century ago and as far as we know, this is the first formal attempt of its application to screen design. 150 screens with apparent visual beauty, a number of which were from well known multimedia applications and web pages were evaluated with our computer-based tool, more than 40% of the screens showed evidence of the shapes and plan schemes of dynamic symmetry. Whether its use was intentional or not we have no written record. However, this experiment showed prospects in developing a dynamic symmetry based design tool to assist screen designers in the aspect of
