Abstract

This paper presents a novel DFIG system with split rotor winding DFIG generator, and with a particular control strategy to offer fault ride through capability. Based on the traditional DFIG model, the simplified equivalent circuit of the DFIG with split rotor winding was studied. The system model using Matlab Simulink block was built accordingly. The dynamic behaviors of the novel DFIG system under voltage dips were evaluated. A low power prototype was then built to verify the concept. Finally, the preliminary experimental results of the DFIG system were provided to prove the idea.
