Reffat holds the full professor position on Architecture, Digital Technologies, and Sustainability at the Faculty of Engineering, Assiut University in Egypt since April 2012. He has also served as an Assistant and Associate Professor at the University of Sydney in Australia (2001-2004) and KFUPM in Saudi Arabia (2004-2011) respectively. He completed his PhD in Architecture and Design Computing at the University of Sydney, Australia in 2000.
Reffat delivered over 70 keynote speeches and presentations in more than 25 countries across the world. He has successfully managed and completed 17 research projects funded by reputable organizations such as the Australian Research Council, University of Sydney, and the CRC Construction Innovation in Australia, KFUPM and KACST in Saudi Arabia, and STDF in Egypt.
Reffat is a leading expert in several areas, including Design Computing and Artificial Intelligence, Building Information Modelling, Digital Architecture and Virtual Design Studios, e-learning, Intelligent, Green and Sustainable buildings and cities, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in buildings, Architectural Creativity, Virtual heritage, and Smart Cities. Reffat has over 110 research papers published in international refereed journals and conferences and 5 book chapters.
Reffat is an accomplished architect, having contributed to the design of unique and major buildings in Australia and the Middle East valued more than US$ 500 million. As the Director of QASP Quality Architecture & Strategic Planning (icqasp.com), his passion for innovative design and sustainability is evident in every project he undertakes. He is also a certified Architectural Consultant from the Engineering Syndicate in Egypt.
