Personal profile
Dr. Mengxia Xu received his PhD degree in Energy & Environmental Engineering from Zhejiang University and has 2.5 years of postdoc experience at Louisiana State University, USA. Since joining the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) as an Assistant Professor in Environmental Engineering in 2016, he has been devoting to teaching 3 core modules for both Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering cohorts. In addition, Dr. Xu is the initiator and convenor of the NAA module "Environmental Science & Technology Internship". In 2020, he received the UK Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) and became a Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Dr. Xu has relatively extensive research experience in clean energy conversion of solid fuels (e.g., coal, biomass and municipal solid waste) and air pollution control (e.g., carbon dioxide, mercury and dioxins). In recent years, he has further expanded his research areas to the disposal and resource utilization of industrial solid waste. He has published nearly 30 SCI papers so far, mainly in CAS Tier I/II journals (e.g., Environmental Science & Technology, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Energy Conversion and Management, Energy, Fuel, Chemosphere, Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis, and Applied Surface Science, etc.). In addition, Dr. Xu holds 3 invention patents and 1 utility model patent. Since joining UNNC, as a PI or core member, he has been awarded a range of external research projects with a cumulative funding amount over 5 million RMB, including NSFC, Zhejiang Provincial Key R&D Program, Zhejiang Provincial Commonweal Project, Ningbo S&T Innovation 2025 Major Program, Ningbo Commonweal Key Program and Ningbo Natural Science Foundation Project.
