Abstract

Zepeto, launched in 2018, is an emerging metaverse platform. On Zepeto, users can create 3D avatars of themselves. Users can customize their avatars’ appearance, doctor them in real photos, or place them in a virtual space using augmented reality (AR) technology. The app also offers a SNS feature, allowing users to interact via text, voice messaging, and emoticons. Zepeto’s main revenue streams consisted of premium subscriptions, advertising, and in-app purchases. Based on the existing revenue structure, Zepeto announced the launch of Zepeto Studio, enabling a self-made games and items feature that was expected to diversify revenue streams further. The new service was similar to Roblox Studio, operated by Roblox, the global leader in the metaverse market. How could Zepeto successfully develop and grow new revenue models and sustain its business in the metaverse world?
