Abstract

This study investigates the vibration power flow transfer characteristics of damaged laminated composite plates for developing damage identification technique from energy flow viewpoint. Compared to other indices, vibration energy transfer patterns of composite plate are shown to be sensitive to the type and location of the damages and therefore they can be used for damage detection. Influences of damages such as fiber breakage, notches and delamination on the power flow behavior are evaluated. High relevance of power flow characteristics to the presences, locations and types of damages shows potential application of power flow based damage detection of composite structures.
