User Perceptions of CAPTCHAs: University vs. Internet Users

Abstract

We surveyed over 250 participants from a university and Amazon Mechanical Turk to understand user perceptions of CAPTCHA security and usability. Users reported struggling with CAPTCHA challenges due to increasing difficulty, leading to frustration and a negative experience. Concerns about reliability and security were also noted. Our findings offer valuable insights for developing more secure and user-friendly CAPTCHA technologies.
