Abstract
The transition into renewable and sustainable energy of China requires retirement of the legacy energy infrastructure and the development of new ones for sustainability. In particular, China being similar to other major economies of the world needs to gradually retire its coal-fired power generating facilities in a timely manner. Through a case study, this chapter looks into the distinct challenges and opportunities in the midst of transition of the coal-fired power sector into more clean energy facilities in China within the context of the Greater Bay Area. Implications for the future developments in the sector are discussed.
