Abstract

In this work, the effect of silane coupling agent on the mechanical behaviour of recycled carbon fibre reinforced bio-based epoxy composite were studied. The surface of recycled carbon fibre was treated by 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane(APS) with agent concentration from 0 wt.% to 8 wt.%,tensile and flexural properties characterisation were performed to observe mechanical behaviour of the specimens, and morphology of fracture surface after mechanical test was also studied under a scanning electron microscope. The tensile and flexural strength of composites were found to increase with a suitable amount of silane agent(< 4 wt.%), which was attributed to the cross-linking and curing reaction between amino group of APS and epoxy matrix, improving the interfacial bonding.
