Abstract

In this study, Mengxi coal and poplar are adopted to investigate the influence of biomass addition on fusion temperatures of ash samples derived from coal and biomass blends. The main trace elements for these samples are found to be Ni, Cr, Pb, As, Co and Ga. The microstructure of ash samples derived from Mengxi coal, poplar, and coal and biomass blends are also analyzed. The analysis on elements composition of ash samples derived from Mengxi coal, poplar and coal/biomass blends shows that the ash fusion temperature of coal/biomass blends increases with the increasing content of poplar in the blends. This is largely due to the high ash fusion temperature of poplar ash. The elemental analysis shows that the higher Ca content contributes to the higher ash fusion temperature of ash derived from blends.
