Abstract

The formation rate constant k1, the dissociation rate constant k2 and the redox reaction rate constant kH2O of [X-C6H4-CH2-Cu2+] intermediates (XCH3O, CH3, H, Cl) have been determined at room temperature in an aqueous solution of [(NH3)5(XC6H4CH2- COO-)(Co3+)](ClO4)2 and Cu(ClO4)2 by time-resolved laser flash photolysis. The rate constant k1 correlates well with the Hammett substituent parameter σp. The reaction constant ρ{variant} was -(1.415±0.111), indicating a high resonance effect.
