Abstract

To reduce the difficulties of electromagnetic field analysis in normal induction motors in which low harmonic windings are used, a proper numerical method to analysis electromagnetic performance of low harmonic windings motor with is developed, in this paper. Based on low harmonic windings theories, through the redesign of wire gage and structure of windings in a normal induction, a new kind of low harmonic motor with high starting torque is proposed. Then, motor electromagnetic performances are analyzed by using the proposed method, and the accuracy of the method could be proved through the comparison of obtained results with the experimental data, as well as the improved motor starting performance. Based on above analysis, flux distributions in air-gap and rotor tooth of new motor are compared with that of ordinary induction motor, and flux density harmonics with different orders in two kinds of motors are comparatively analyzed. The calculated results indicated that harmonics are reduced greatly in the new motor.
