Abstract
The objective of this research was to devise an innovative approach for the operation of Permanent Magnet Assisted Synchronous Reluctance Machines (PMa-SynRMs) under the Maximum Torque Per Ampere (MTPA) condition. A comprehensive analysis of the MTPA condition was conducted, and the MTPA condition was subsequently derived from the input electrical power. The method proposed involves the injection of a constant frequency current signal, utilized for tracking the MTPA operating point in conjunction with the fundamental current responsible for torque generation. This technique eliminates the need for any machine parameters or pre-established looking-up tables, and it is robust to resistance, inductance, and flux variation. The frequency of the injected signal is in the range of several hundred hertz, and the performance of the MTPA tracking is virtually unaffected by load torque disturbance. The practicality of the proposed method was verified by the MATLAB simulation.
