Abstract

Working remotely and collaborating with colleagues online has become a prevailing trend. The user experience with various collaboration tools, such as teleconferencing platforms, online whiteboards, and virtual reality, plays a pivotal role in facilitating effective communication. This paper aims to explore the social factors that influence immersion in remote collaborative meetings. Through the analysis of data collected from a series of semi-structured interviews, themes were categorized into three dimensions, namely system, context, and human factors. Compared to earlier research into the relevant influencing factors, the social dimension is emphasized in our findings, and all the factors are described from a social perspective. We conclude by discussing the possible implications of these factors on system and platform design.
