Abstract

The binary opposition of monopolizing the good while driving out the evil in moral and universal absolute terms is part of every kind of group dynamics in American culture and politics. Yet as much as it is interesting to analyze, it is also dangerous in moral terms because it limits the differentiation of arguments and decisions. When rhetoric points towards only one possible choice, students need to develop an awareness of the problems and dangers that this rhetoric bears.
