Research output: Chapter in Book/Conference proceedingBook Chapterpeer-review

Abstract

In the face of increasing digitalization, this chapter surveys the emerging application of digital twins in the construction industry. Despite the construction industry's traditional nature, the past decade has witnessed an increased emphasis on digital technology. However, the incorporation of digital twins within this sector remains in the early stages. This chapter provides a comprehensive review of its current usage and future potential. A primary focus of this review is the comparison between digital twins and building information modelling, highlighting the unique characteristics and overlapping features of each. Furthermore, the study delves into the influence of digital twins throughout the various stages of the construction process, from design to demolition. By providing an in-depth exploration of this cutting-edge technology, the paper aims to enhance industry development, promote sustainable practices, and offer valuable insights that will underpin future research in this evolving field.
