Demarginalizing the Humanities in the Sino-American Higher Education Context: Reflections on English Language and Literature in Nanjing and Wenzhou

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

At Sino-foreign universities English studies specifically and the humanities more broadly are not taken seriously by students, academics in the non-humanities fields, and administrators. Much ink has been spilled analyzing and explaining the challenges humanities disciplines face in China and across SE Asia. This talk explored the ways in which the humanities are central to the success of all the disciplines, calls for universities to seek universal human flourishing, and argues that only by re-enchanting and globalizing the humanities will we find solutions.
