Abstract

Bio-hydrogen produced in an anaerobic immobilized cell in a packed bed reactor has been carried out. The characteristics of hydrogen production rate and decomposition ability of the reactor impacted by the different influent substrate concentration (ISC), flow rate of influent as well as temperature and pH was studied in the article. The results show that the performance of the reactor is greatly affected by the ISC and the flow rate of influent. It was demonstrated that the optimum conditions for hydrogen production in the reactor was at a temperature of 35°C, with a pH value of 6.0 and with an ISC of 30 g/L. In the above conditions the maximum hydrogen production rate of 0.965 mg/h was reached when the flow rate of substrate was 0.1344 m/L and evidences indicated that the decomposition ability of this bacteria is high enough when glucose is taken as only carbon source.
