Abstract

A novel 12/8 permanent magnet (PM) assisted segmental rotor type switched reluctance motor (SRM) is proposed in this paper. The new structure combines the advantage of segmental rotor structure with a short magnetic circuit and the advantage of high magnetic energy product of PMs without affecting the fault tolerance and reliability of the motor. Compared with conventional 12/8 segmental rotor type SRM, the proposed structure improves the torque density and efficiency. To verify the proposed structure, the finite element method (FEM) is employed to get the static and steady-state characteristics of the conventional 12/8 segmental rotor type SRM and proposed novel SRM. Finally, the validity of the proposed structure is verified by the analyzing results.
