Abstract
This article proposes an approach to the history of architectonic restoration in Colombia from the 1920s #when the debate on the heritage was increased due to the search for their “own” art and architecture# to the 1970s when the practice of architectonic restoration began to be supported on scientific grounds and developed by professionals specifically trained in the university research centers. This work is based on a broad secondary source bibliography as well as some partially unpublished primary sources and is conducted under a cultural history approach. This is a must to show the underlying connections between different activities and move away from just a discipline account. Rather, the aim was to cover the fields of History of Art, Literature and Politics, pointing out the interrelations between the production of a discourse on heritage and how to protect it, the identity constructions in the field of art and the political processes.
