Abstract
This chapter examines the interplay between familial expectations, student well-being, and reflective practice in higher education. Using a case study involving family pressure on academic performance, it explores how tutors can support students managing such demands. Through literature review, case analysis, and reflective practice, it highlights the influence of cultural norms, mental health, and personalized support on student success. Key strategies include fostering trust, teaching stress management, employing cognitive-behavioral techniques, and culturally responsive pedagogy. It emphasizes holistic, early intervention, integrated support, academic flexibility, and self-compassion. Reflecting on the case study, the chapter offers insights for future teaching, advocating for educator development to address academic and emotional needs. Ultimately, it calls for proactive, inclusive, and culturally sensitive approaches to student support, promoting resilience and long-term success.
