Abstract

The invention of nanoparticles brought a new dimension of research into fabricating and utilizing nanocomposites. Especially nanoparticles in the range between 1 and 100 nm become a prime concern as they possess completely unique properties. Among the different nanofiller resources, graphene is considered the most auspicious one as it exhibits outstanding properties in the mechanical and functional domains, and graphene-reinforced nanocomposite is a major field of research nowadays. Fatigue is a very important phenomenon and enhancing the fatigue resistance of the composite is one of the major considerations for researchers before using the material in structural applications. Almost all the research concludes that the incorporation of graphene as a filler remarkably enhances the fatigue life of the nanocomposites; however, the limited research in this context failed to create a decisive understanding of this revolutionary material. Therefore, this study aims to provide a concise review of the advantages of including graphene fillers in composite materials, including polymer matrix composites, metal matrix composites, and hybrid composites, specifically in relation to their fatigue strength. The significance of this topic lies in the fact that fatigue breakdowns might result in catastrophic outcomes. Based on the research, it can be inferred that the inclusion of graphene filler enhances the fatigue resistance of the composite. However, a comprehensive comprehension of this matter is still lacking. Therefore, this study would greatly contribute to the research community by providing comprehensive insights into the fatigue phenomena, fatigue fracture mechanisms, and fatigue life of this promising material.
