Abstract

Capacitive Power Transfer (CPT) systems have emerged as an alternative wireless power transfer technology in recent years. CPT systems transfer power based on electric field coupling which provides some unique features such as low profile and low EMI. This paper proposed a compact CPT system based on planar printed-circuit-board (PCB) planar inductor, which yields a very thin profile. The design method and working principle of the proposed system are provided. The characteristics of the compact CPT system are described. A 10cm-by-10cm prototype CPT system based on PCB is built. Simulated and experimental results demonstrated the compact CPT system could deliver 1.4 W output power.
