Dr Loh Teng-Hern Tan is an Assistant Professor in Life Science and Healthcare at Nottingham Ningbo China Beacons of Excellence Research and Innovation Institute (CBI), University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC). He holds a PhD in Medicine (Biomedical Science), awarded by Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia in 2019.

Currently, he is one of the principal investigators of the Microbiome Research Group at CBI, UNNC. His research focuses on the field of bioprospecting and drug discovery, with a specific emphasis on Actinobacteria, particularly Streptomyces sp. His fascination with these microorganisms stems from their potential to produce bioactive compounds with a wide range of beneficial properties. By exploring the vast diversity of Streptomyces bacteria, he aims to uncover novel bioactive compounds that could potentially be developed into therapeutics or other valuable applications. He is also interested in microbiome research on how microbiota affects human health as well as the potential use of probiotics in various disease management.
