Research Interests

Dr Melentiev`s insterests lay in metal additive manufacturing, micro/nano manufacturing, surface and coating technologies. He is currently fucused on two material processing technologies:

1) Lithography metal manufacturing (LMM), which is a novel sinter-based metal micro 3D printing tecnhology allowing to fabricate the most complex parts out of any metal without support structures directly to a net-shape bypassing constly workshop postprocessings. Dr Melentiev has previously researched on LMM with Incus GmbH (Austria) delivering the very first peonnering publications and seminars (at the University of Cambridge and Edinburgth) about the machine tools and DLP processing of metal-filled resins.

2) Wire-feed Laser-based Directed Energy Deposition (WL-DED) is the largest and most productive metal AM technology, which can be explicitely understood as 3D welding with wire and laser. Dr Melentiev is particularly interested in expending material selection range for WL-DED towards high entropy alloys and functional graded materials for producing metre scaled commercial components.

Previoulsy, Dr Melentiev was researching on thermal and cold spray AM, electrochemical depositiion, abrasive jet machining, powder blasting, surface micro-nano texturing and coating technologies for metals, polymers and composites.

His research is mostly of experimental nature consisting in assembling new machine tools, development materials processing protocols, producing unproduceble parts, testing their properties and performance and doing all sorts of microscopy characterization.
