Abstract

A new kind of induction motor with compound cage rotor (IMCCR) is proposed in this paper, in which rotor bars are composed of upper parts made of alloy (conductor for electric and magnetic) and lower parts made of cast aluminum. By using FEM, the electromagnetic and thermal fields of IMCCR are analyzed with coupling. The electromagnetic fields of motor operating with locked rotor and striking current are calculated first, and the transient heat transfer processes in motor are studied through thermal analysis. Thus, effects of operating state on motor performance are studied, especially for the windings insulation. The obtained results are compared with the experimental data.
