Abstract
The damage resistance of a fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composite to a concentrated quasi-static indentation force was measured. The indentation force was applied to the composite laminate by slowly pressing a hemispherical steel indenter into the surface. Slight indentation leads to an abrupt decrease in resistance. Piezo-resistivity properties were used to follow the penetration-damage of matrix structure in a simultaneous and real-time manner.
