A preconditioned lattice-Boltzmann method (LBM) for steady flows was analyzed. The dynamic behavior of a fluid was depicted by a lattice-Boltzmann equation (LBE) for the single-particle distribution function (DF), and the flow variables were computed from the DF directly. It was shown that the convergence rate could be increased equal to an order of magnitude compared to the standard lattice Boltzmann method. The results show that the preconditioning can improve the convergence behavior appreciably, while maintaining the accuracy of the final results produced by the standard LBE.
