Materialistic Dehumanization in Brave New World and A Clockwork Orange

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

This presentation analyzes the ways in which these science fiction dystopian novels present the horrors of philosophical materialism, with a special emphasis on the dehumanizing effects of socialism and centralized planning as represented in the novels. The paper concludes with a speculation on how the Catholic economic theory known as subsidiarity may present practical solutions to the dangers of socialism and centralized planning.
