Abstract

Mapping, measuring and theorizing various fluctuating gaps between what the press is expected to be and do and what the press actually is and does in society, the proposed model is expected to better describe, explain and/or predict press differences in different countries. Conceptually based on symbiosis and multiplicity, the model involves an Actor-Re lation-Factor analysis of the impact of the triangular relationship between the power, the press and the public on various fluctuating normative-empirical gaps and how they shape press differences together with other multiple influential factors.
