Female friendships on film: understanding homosocial interaction in gender‐swapped films

Research output: Chapter in Book/Conference proceedingBook Chapterpeer-review

Abstract

Female friendship films have been the subject of scholarship and popular press interest in recent years. The popularity of films such as Bridesmaids and The Heat have witnessed a new form of comedy film in which female characters occupy the character dynamics and immature humor previously associated with male-centered bromance films. This entry outlines some of the thematic concerns of female friendship films and extrapolates how themes from gender-swapped media texts can contribute to discussions of female friendship on film.
