Abstract

This chapter sheds light on the concept of ethnic journalism and systematizes previous research on ethnic news media in the global South, thereby to place this book into ongoing discussion around ethnic journalism as a profession and social mission. Moreover, it compares ethnic news media with other types of media in order to underline the conceptual differences between ethnic, diasporic, minority, immigrant and community media. The chapter goes on to address the diverse roles performed by ethnic journalists and news media in any context.
