Abstract

Horizontal tubes in fluidized beds are eroded by particles pushed up at the front of bubbles and carried by bubble wakes. Abrasion also occurs at the sides of the tubes. Impact velocities are mostly of the same order as bubble velocities, but more energetic impacts occur when bubbles coalesce immediately below a tube. Impact angles vary widely but are larger for wake particles than for cap particles. (A)
