Comparison of synchronization control techniques for traction motors of high-speed trains

Abstract

Multi-motor synchronization control is significant for the steady running of high-speed trains. This paper introduces four typical synchronization strategies for multiple motors, namely the master reference control, master-slave control, cross-coupling control, and electronic virtual line-shafting (EVLS) control. Based on the structure of the CRH2 high-speed train, corresponding control systems are established in Simulink® utilizing above methods, with high-power permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM). The advantages and drawbacks of all techniques are presented by simulating the operating conditions of high-speed trains with load disturbances. Finally the technique which can best achieve precise synchronization and satisfy the necessities of traction systems is determined.
