Abstract
The advent of vertical disintegration coupled with the globalization of markets has brought about increased attention to how firms coordinate flow of materials across their supply chains. This paper explores the impact of buyer-supplier relationships and information technology on a firm's external logistics integration and agility performance. We empirically test hypothesized relationships based on a sample of over 200 United States firms. The findings demonstrate that effective external logistics integration is engendered by strategic buyer-supplier relationships and information technology. Moreover, information technology was found to be a moderator of the link between buyer-supplier relationships and logistics integration. This study provides additional insights for researchers and practitioners into understanding the strategic management of the supply function and logistics integration. Implications for future research and managerial practice are also discussed.
