Abstract
Recent work shows that froth imaging technology can be successfully applied during flotation to characterize the dewatering behavior of fine coal. Tests were conducted using a pilot-scale flotation bank with different feed conditions and the visual appearance of the froth was recorded using a video camera. Froth images were analyzed online and the dewatering characteristics of the flotation concentrates were investigated using vacuum filtration. The size and ash distribution of the concentrates were determined and a correlation analysis was conducted from the parameters of froth imaging. Results indicated that the color of the froth images shows a strong relationship with the ash content of the concentrates, the moisture content, and the specific cake resistance of the filter cakes produced.
