Yilong received his BA from Vassar College, with his junior year spent abroad at Waseda University in Tokyo, and later completed an MSc at the University of Oxford and an EdM at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists.
During his time in the US, Yilong worked in higher education settings with Japanese language students from a variety of linguistic backgrounds, including native speakers of English, Chinese, and Korean, and Japanese heritage learners. He also has experience teaching English as a second language.
Yilong's current academic interests include mental health in higher education, L1 and L2 acquisition, language policy and assessment, and non-linguistic cognitive consequences of bilingualism across the lifespan.
