The econometric analysis of household surveys and other microeconomic datasets. Topics related to poverty, education, health and intra-household issues but covers issues to do with labour markets and productivity more generally.
Research Interests
Labour and human resources with application to China and sub-Saharan Africa. Currently working on a four year project for the UK Department for International Development and the Economic and Social Research Council, entitled “Local Government, Economic Growth and Human Development: Chinese Lessons for Kenya and Uganda”.
Personal profile
Simon joined the University of Nottingham in the summer of 2000. Formerly, he was a lecturer at the University of Bath for one year and a Research Officer at the Centre for the Study of African Economies, Oxford University. He is a member of the IZA, the Institute for Labour Economics. He has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of African Economies, the Journal of Development Studies and African Development Review. He has published in a range of journals including Economic Development and Cultural Change, the Journal of African Economies, the Journal of International Development, the Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics and World Development.
