Abstract
This research delves into the dynamic relationship between Digital Transformation (DT) and Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM) within organisations. Unlike prior studies that predominantly highlight the positive effects of DT on SSCM, this study employs a paradox-based perspective to explore complex, often overlooked tensions within engaging DT and SSCM at the supply chain level by using the multiple case study approach. It reveals a skewed emphasis on institutional forces and management awareness, noting a lesser focus on DT’s performance-related tensions than those in SSCM. The research identifies how belonging tensions within SSCM can aggravate belonging tensions in DT, particularly when DT is leveraged to enhance SSCM proactively. Conversely, belonging tensions inherent in DT can escalate SSCM’s performance challenges. Moreover, the study observes that SSCM’s performing tensions may further aggravate DT’s belonging tensions, offering a more intricate
understanding of these interdependencies. This study is different from the previous literature that addresses the hierarchical structure of paradoxical tensions within SSCM and primarily views DT’s impact on SSCM in a positive light.
