Abstract
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare has rapidly increased, significantly enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of medical practices worldwide. This paper reviews the role of AI technologies in healthcare routines through a comprehensive analysis of studies spanning from 2014 to 2024. Utilizing a healthcare routine framework, we identify five key aspects: input, assessment, algorithm, action, and output, while exploring the sub-routines within each aspect. This framework illuminates how AI influences both the ostensive (structural) and performative (practical) dimensions of healthcare routines. This study illustrates how AI is reshaping healthcare practices and contributing to the institutionalization of new routines, offering insights into the improvement of both ostensive and performative dimensions of healthcare routines. In addition, this research highlights potential directions for future studies on the role of AI in healthcare routines, suggesting areas that warrant further investigation.
