Abstract
Simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (STAR-RISs) can serve users in full space. By combining STAR-RIS and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), ultra-reliable low-latency communications can be achieved. This paper evaluates NOMA downlink transmission with STAR-RIS. Analytical expressions for ergodic rates are presented for a network with two NOMA users. Effective channel power is exploited using a Gamma distribution approximation. Numerical results demonstrate parameter selection and provide insight into the analytical analysis.
