Abstract

This conceptual chapter delves into the transformative potential of integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into human resources (HR) strategy for shaping the future of work. With increasing environmental concerns, societal expectations, and governance reforms in Asia, ESG metrics have become critical for investors and stakeholders. Proactively incorporating ESG principles into HR strategies allows organisations to navigate regulatory changes, enhance resilience, and align with contemporary values. The chapter explores how ESG integration impacts talent acquisition, retention, employee engagement, and corporate culture while addressing challenges in implementing ESG-focused HR strategies. It also reviews methods for measuring ESG’s influence on HR outcomes, providing insights into how these practices can drive sustainable business success. By synthesising concepts from organisational behaviour, human resource management, sustainability studies, and strategic management, this chapter offers a robust theoretical framework for ESG-driven HR strategies. Through this lens, it highlights the strategic importance of aligning HR practices with ESG principles to create a sustainable, engaged, and future-ready workforce. This chapter serves as a roadmap for HR professionals and organisations, offering practical guidance to navigate the complexities of contemporary business environments while meeting societal and environmental expectations.
