Abstract
Due to the flux modulation effect, flux modulation linear permanent magnet machines (FMLPMs) exhibit attractive features such as high force density and low force ripple. However, there is no systematic summary and generalization of them so far. Hence, this article will present a review of FMLPMs. First, the basic model and operation principle of FMLPMs will be introduced. Second, based on the basic model, FMLPMs are classified into three categories. Then, how these categories evolved from the basic model, and what research has been done will be presented. Also, a comprehensive comparison of several typical FMLPMs will be given. Finally, the application areas of FMLPMs are provided for reference.
